September 14th .... Mirepoix

The days are sunny, the smell of fall is in the air and the beautiful countryside takes my breath away!
Although I’ve traveled the world many times, this is my first trip to France and the rurals are different from anything I’ve seen. Similar to some of the older homes in Quebec the homes and shops they seem to hug the street/sidewalks but the closed shutters give the appearance that no one is home!
Mirepoix isonly one of many medieval towns and is tucked away amongst the undulating hills of the Hers Valley in the Pyrenees mountains -- this is the land of Cathars and castles No matter where we drove, it seemed that all roads led to Foix!
Mirepoix was a Cathar stronghold which paid dearly for its heresy, suffering a massacre at the hands of the Catholic Crusaders; but this in fact was only the beginning of it’s misfortunes, as a generation later it was all but destroyed by a flood.
David and Sylvie are our hosts at the Auberge; originally from England they’ve been innkeepers for 3 years --- we couldn’t have asked for better hosts.
I’m so happy to have brought along some music, the iPOD must have well over 500 pieces and we’ll hook it up to my JBL speaker once we settle into our house at Cat’Art.
We’ll be here for 3 nights and I can hardly wait to fall asleep in my GoldiLocks-style IKEA bed.

Go to that big grocery store in the next town...(senior moment) but it's the town in the direction of Foix and get a new charger for the ipod. I got a new camera card there when mine went on the blink after two photos last time.
