Wine Tasting of a Sort

Wednesday September 18, 2007

Today is a truly spectacular cool fall day. The sky is a blue that you only have to see to believe.
As is becoming the norm food begins and ends our days. This morning breakfast consisted of cheese, bread, jam, boiled eggs coffee for Pat, tea for Winn and milk for Judy.

Plans were for us to motor to Limoux for wine tasting. We got as far as the vineyards. They are spectacular especially when you are seeing them the first time as Judy is doing. Pat described my look as that of a child on Christmas morning. We observed the pickers at work and they welcomed us in to the fields. Never have I tasted such sweetness. The wine grapes are much smaller in size than table grapes. Just a note: we have observed that the table grapes we are purchasing are from Italy!!!! We continued to take interesting back country roads. That is all part of this great adventure.

By the time we arrived at the outskirts of Limoux it was time to head back across the mountain. We had to make preparations for an evening pot luck social with the other Cat'Art
participants. I prepared a potato, cleric and cheese gratin which was a great hit. Others brought a veal stew, Korean pancakes, endive stuffed with a mixture of apples, onions and mayonnaise (quite different), a version of potato salad with anchovies, an apple cake and lots of different wines, cheeses and breads. This was a wonderful way to meet other artists.

The end of this wonderful day came as I sat and looked up at the sky. It was a true midnight navy blue sprinkled with diamond dust (stars). Bonsoir, Judy

It's hard to believe the sweetness in the sun ripened grapes (sun-dried ones are great, too) unless you are there. I think the atmosphere makes EVERYTHING taste more wonderful. I'm enjoying every minute of your blog. Thanks, girls.
